Paychex Demonstrates Commitment to Veterans by Participating in Hiring Our Heroes Nationwide Initiative

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Paychex, Inc. has partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment opportunities.

Paychex, one of the nation’s leading providers of payroll, human resource, insurance, and benefits outsourcing solutions for small- to medium-sized businesses, has made a concerted effort to hire both veterans and their spouses. This year, the company furthered its commitment to veterans by participating in Service Member Transition Summits to learn best practices on hiring and retaining military employees.

“Paychex serves more than a half-million clients nationwide by bringing together innovators, thought leaders, and problem-solvers—many of whom are former or active members of the military,” said Laurie Zaucha, vice president of human resources and organizational development at Paychex. “We believe the characteristics and skills that veterans possess are extremely valuable in the workplace and are well worth our efforts to recruit and retain military personnel. Especially on Veterans Day, Paychex is proud to be part of the Hiring Our Heroes initiative.”

There are a number of benefits military veterans can bring to companies, including a strong work ethic, self-direction, efficiency, eagerness to learn, and leadership skills. However, many struggle to find work when they return to civilian life. For one U.S. Navy veteran with twenty years of service, this was exactly the case, until she interviewed with Paychex at a local job exposition. Petty Officer First Class Ava Venishel now holds another title in her role at Paychex.

“Paychex truly embraces the skills and potential of military veterans,” said Ava Venishel, insurance compliance research supervisor at Paychex. “After spending two decades in the Navy, I learned that finding meaningful work in the civilian world can be a challenge. I wasn’t just in search of a job; I was looking for a career. I consider myself very lucky to have landed at Paychex and know that the company will continue its efforts to turn qualified veterans into successful and valued employees.”

In addition to participating in the Hiring Our Heroes program, Paychex will participate in the Jeans for Troops Day event held by the GI Go Fund, a nonprofit charitable organization that provides assistance to all military veterans by helping them find employment, access housing, and secure educational and health benefits. Employees will have an opportunity to donate money to wear jeans on Veterans Day, with the total contribution matched by the company with a grant from the Paychex Community Foundation.
