IDG's Computerworld Names Paychex to Annual List of Best Places to Work in Information Technology

Fifth straight year on the list for leading payroll and HR services company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Paychex, Inc. announced today that IDG's Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management," has selected the company as one of the top 100 workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. This honor is part of the weekly IT publication's 16th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the June 15 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com. Paychex, a leading provider of payroll and human resource services, ranked number 35 on the 2009 list, up from number 54 last year. This is the fifth consecutive year Paychex participated in the survey and appeared on the list.

Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training, and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 27,000 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

"This honor confirms our commitment to keeping Paychex a great place to work," said Jonathan J. Judge, Paychex president and chief executive officer. "Our IT professionals - and all our employees - can come to work each day knowing they'll be challenged, supported, and given the chance to grow, all while enjoying a terrific package of benefits and programs that help them take care of their lives outside of work."

In its employer profile of Paychex, Computerworld cited the company's robust wellness program, which is well-utilized by IT employees who participate in companywide wellness efforts and have organized their own biking and walk/run events. It also called out several community volunteer efforts embraced by Paychex IT employees, including student mentoring and Habitat for Humanity builds.

In addition to ranking number 35 on the overall list, Paychex ranked among the top 30 in a few key areas:

-- #4 for the number of training days offered per employee (14 days)
-- #11 for the percentage of IT employees promoted (19%)
-- #26 for the percentage of women (37%)

"We're so pleased to be recognized by Computerworld again this year," said Daniel A. Canzano, Paychex vice president of information technology. "In addition to challenging work on projects that help drive the company's success, it's the camaraderie that exists among our IT people that make our great place to work even better."

"To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay, and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business critical. In the months and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth."
